The highlight of the day's events at the Midwest Wingfest on Saturday was the Wing-Eating Contest. Here, a dozen contestants - 11 men and one woman - gobbled wings quickly to see who could consume 25 chicken wings the fastest, as judges stand over them and check their progress. At right, in the front row, last year's champ Joe Zaidi raises his arms in victory as he won the contest again this year. Zaidi lives in downtown St. Louis, and brought last year's trophy with him (on table in front of him). He wins a $100 cash prize and a free year of chicken wings. There was also a 5K run early Saturday morning, music by live groups throughout the day, and dozens of vendors selling a variety of chicken wings and other food items and beverages. The Wingfest, which was held on the east parking lot of St. Clair Square, helps support disabled veterans.
