U.S. Army Major General Thomas Richardson is assisted during the cake-cutting ceremony at Scott AFB to recognize the Army's 238th birthday. Tradition calls for a saber to be used to cut the cake, and it is to be held by the oldest Army soldier and the youngest. On Friday morning Richard Ross, a retired colonel, age 75 (left), and Bernie Cason, a recruit, age 18 (right) were joined by Richardson in holding the saber to cut the cake.
