National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows employee Genaro Botello unboxes more Christmas lights as he prepares dozens of strands for a co-worker using a bucket truck to hang on trees near the playground. Botello works in the roads and grounds department. The annual Way of Lights features over one million white lights along a 1.5 mile path that shows the journey to Bethlehem. It opened Friday night and runs through December 31. The Way of Lights also features events inside the Dooley Center for children, including Christmas tree and wreath displays, and live animals and a petting zoo outside. It is free to get in, but donations are accepted.
