Illinois State Police crime scene investigator Grant Hentze holds an electronic digital thermometer through the rear window of a Hyundai Elantra as he takes a reading of the car's interior temperature on Friday June 21, 2013. A 23 month-old boy died in the car when he was left inside for over two hours on Thursday June 20, 2013 during the hottest point of the day. The toddler's body temperature was 104.6 degrees according to the St. Clair County Coroner. Police investigators had towed the vehicle from the scene, but returned it back to the home's driveway on Friday June 21, 2013 in an attempt to "recreate" the circumstances leading to the toddler's death. They took temperature measurements during the day to see just how hot the car's interior could become.
