Douglas School first grade student Natalie Harris is introduced to her classmates in teacher Diane Gravot's classroom by Principal Theresa Blomenkamp (left). Natalie initially had a little trouble adjusting to the first day of school, but her hesitation quickly gave way to a big, warm smile as she recognized several friends from kindergarten among the group. Gravot is seated at far right, reading a story to the children. Douglas School is one of the Belleville schools which don't have a kindergarten, so some of the students in Gravot's classroom were meeting each other for the first time on Thursday. School was a little over three hours long on the first day.
