People march from St. Peter's Cathedral in downtown Belleville east on West Lincoln Street as seen from an overhead vantage point in the St. Clair County parking garage. They had first attended a Mass celebrated by Bishop Braxton at the Cathedral, then marched to the St. Clair County building, where they held a prayer rally for religious freedom on the steps facing Belleville's Public Square. It's part of a national movement called Fortnight for Freedom, which runs from June 21 through July 4. Locally the march and rally were sponsored by the Catholic Diocese of Belleville, but the event is intended to focus attention on the religious liberty of all people and all faiths.
