Belleville Stags captain Todd "Dutch" Eschman makes a brief speech, as part of the post-game tribute to the other team following their Saturday August 18 game under the Gateway Arch on the St. Louis riverfront. At left is Stags player Kyle "Monk" Lewis. The teams played by rules of the game as they were in the late 19th century -- when there were no umpires, only a lone arbiter to make judgement calls. The Stags, the Lafayette Cyclone, and the St. Louis Unions competed in a series of round-robin games to build interest in vintage base ball and were hosted on the site by the Federal Park Service, which had information booths and handouts for interested people. About 150 people around the perimeter of the makeshift field watched all or part of the three games the teams played.
