Laurie Edwards, the Respect Life Coordinator for the Catholic Diocese of Belleville, speakds during a prayer rally at the St. Clair County Building. She and others who gathered there had first attended a Mass celebrated by Bishop Braxton at the Cathedral, then marched to the St. Clair County building, where they held this prayer rally for religious freedom on the steps facing Belleville's Public Square. It's part of a national movement called Fortnight for Freedom, which runs from June 21 through July 4. Locally the march and rally were sponsored by the Catholic Diocese of Belleville, but the event is intended to focus attention on the religious liberty of all people and all faiths.
